Does anyone know if there is any relationship between the call sign and the serial used for these aircraft? I thought the last 4 digits of the call sign matched the last four of the serial but this seems note to be the case unless they swop around the HEX codes ! Also strange that the serials are in descending order versus the HEX codes.

Usually the Italian MM numbers don't match with the callsign, for the VIP aircraft it happens more often,
for the transports hardly ever. The only thing you can conclude form the callsign is the aircraft type.
So you will never see a C130J using an India callsigns from a C27J etc.
