AE0575 87-0033

Post by Navairboss »

The hex code db has the following listing AE0575 86-0024/87-0033 RCH7033 (note the Mode-S c/s)

AE0575 87-0033 is the 439AW/337AS Westover ARB (Metropolitan Airport), MA KCEF

86-0024 is also suppose to be AE0575 (I can't confirm that) but it is a 60AMW/22AS Travis AFB, CA KSUU C-5B.

I highly recommend separating these two listings in the db as we have others who are bad mouthing the listing when some of our contributors post the listing above on some of the public milcom message boards.

I would say right now that 86-0024 is not carrying the AE0575 hex code but something else.

Hi Guys

I've been keeping an eye on AE0575 and it is apparent (at least to me) that this has for quite some time been used by C-5s on respective sides of the Continental USA. It certainly can be (as Larry has said) associated with 87-0033 (which ought to be using AE057E) and was noted on the 10th November using flight ID "RCH7033". However, for the last few months there have also been a number of reports of this hex at low altitudes in California, which aren't consistent with the movements of 87-0033 (which is based at Westover, MA), i.e.
AE0575 RCH280 2013-12-11 03:08:56 C-5B United States Lathrop CA, US 4564 1500
AE0575 RCH259 2013-12-16 20:41:12 C-5B United States Lathrop CA, US 3243 7300
AE0575 FRED88 2014-01-09 18:23:13 C-5B United States Lathrop CA, US 3714 1300
So we seem to have an additional C-5 using this hex code.

Despite what has been said there's no reason to think that 86-0024 (the rightful 'owner' of hex code AE0575) is using a different hex code, and by way of confirmation I see that AE0575 was reported in Europe on Saturday 18th using flight ID "RCH549" and the reports of the hex suggest it crossed the Atlantic and made its way into Ramstein. Corresponding with that was a report on Yahoo Group MSF (Mil-Spotters Forum) of a visual sighting of 86-0024 (60th AMW) at that location on that date.

All things considered it seems premature to have removed the reference to AE0575 and its tie up to 86-0024. In short AE0575 looks to me as though it is currently valid for both 86-0024 & 87-0033.

Best wishes
